Chapter 6 closes with the unraveling of the cosmos and the frightened earth-dwllers crying out "For the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to withstand it?" John then saw four angels holding back the winds of destruction, as a fifth angel appears with the seal of God to place on the foreheads of God's faithful servants. John hears the number of the Lord's warriors, "144,000 from all the tribes of Israel".
