Luke 1:16-25; Luke begins his gospel account with the startling visitation of the angel Gabriel to elderly priest Zechariah. It had been over 400 years since the Lord sent a messenger angel to disclose His plans for the coming of Messiah. Zechariah was told his elderly wife Elizabeth would conceive and bear a son to be named John. He would be the forerunner of the longawaited Christ.
