Luke 4:14-30; After His temptation by the devil in the wilderness, Jesus headed back north to Galilee where he will invest most of His earthly ministry. After attending several Sabbath gatherings in the local synagogues, Jesus returned to is hometown of Nazareth. He conducted the reading from Isaiah 61 on the coming of Messiah, then sat down to teach. He first imformed that this prophesy was being fulfilled in front of them. Then he wryly noted that someone who grew up in their midst would not be accepted as God’s servant. Finally, he challenged the crowd with two instances in Israel’s history where the nation was unfaithful and the LORD sent His blessing to Gentiles. This infuriated the people of Nazareth, who tried to kill Jesus by throwing Him off a cliff.
