Luke 6:43-49; Luke concludes his condensed overview of the Sermon on the Mount in the same manner as Matthew. Jesus employed another agricultural metaphor to describe the differece between good and bad individuals. They were likened to trees bearing either good or bad fruit. Then Jesus referenced the nature of the human heart; whatever is stored away will define the individual…good or evil. His final word pictures described the results of two different builders, one digging deep to the bedrock and another simply building on the ground with no foundation. Such is the difference between those who obey Christ’s words and those who simply hear and continue on their own chosen path. The storms of life will reveal the depth of foundation in Christ; whether the house stands or collapses in destruction.
