Matthew 28:1-15; Following the crucifixion and burial of Jesus, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went early to the tomb. A sudden earthquake heralded the coming of a messeger angel from the Lord to roll back the stone sealing Jesus’ burial place. The angel’s message was direct, “He is not here’ he has risen, just as he said”. At the same time the ladies were invited to inspect the empty tomb, the Roman guards posted to prevent the body of Christ from being stolen, were lying on the ground in terror. Rushing back to report this amazing news to the Eleven, the ladies encountered the risen Jesus who related the same message. At the same time, the guards were reporting to the chief priests what they had seen.
