Revelation 2:12-17: Christ Jesus continued His dictation to John with a third message to the churches in Asia, this time in the city of Pergamum. Jesus immediately notes that this group of believers were in a very precarious location, “where Satan has his throne“. Despite the fierce persecution they endured, Christ commends them for their faithfulness, as they “remain true to my name“. However, they also had some internal issues in the church, including some who had fallen into a Balaam-like trap of idolatry and sexual immorality. Commanded to repent, Pergamum would then receive, “hidden manna….and a smooth white stone” as assurance of their entry into heaven.
